Broadmoor Presbyterian Church Outreach
Tutoring Ministry
Every Tuesday and Thursday night at 6 PM during the school year BPC offers a
tutoring program in Naylor Hall.  The tutoring ministry is targeted at Junior and
Senior high school students, and almost all are not members of Broadmoor
Presbyterian Church.  All subjects, including foriegn languages, can typically be
accommodated. Adults needing tutoring assistance are also welcome.
Southeast Ministries
Broadmoor Presbyterian Church is active in Southeast Ministries, a collection of
churches in Baton Rouge which provide weekly support to families in the form of
food and rent and utilities assistance. Church members have long been volunteers,
as 100% of the work done by SE Ministries is done by volunteers. Additionally, an
annual Thanksgiving ecumenical service is hosted by one of the member churches

Camp Overview
Camp Agape
Every Summer, Broadmoor organizes Camp Agape at the Feliciana Retreat Center,
a facility in Norwood, LA.  Camp Agape is open to all that want to experience the
thrills of God's natural wonders.  Being away from home with other youth heightens
their senses and makes children more open to spiritual growth.
Villa Del Rey Elementary School
School, our nearest public school, Our Coordinator for Community Ministries, Bill
Simmons, is the contact for our activities with the school.  For examples, we have
coordinated school supply drives to provide the students with the materials the
students need to be successful.
Cuban Water Project
The people of Cuba have suffered much in the last fifty years, not least in the lack
of safe drinking water.  Water-borne diseases such as dysentery and cholera and
others can cause pain and even death.  An organization called “Living Waters for
the World”, headquartered in Franklin, Tennessee, is working with Presbyterian
Churches in the U.S. to help vulnerable rural Cubans have the most basic of gifts—
clean water to drink.  The Cuba Partnership of the Presbytery of South Louisiana
has sent many volunteers down to visit the churches, as well as the united
Presbyterian seminary there, in Matanzas Presbytery of western Cuba.  Our own
Mariano Hinojosa has been one of these mission volunteers.  A newly chartered
(Feb. 26, 2012) Presbyterian Church in Cuba, called “El Fuerte Church”, has been
able to provide this water as its core outreach to the community.  The pastor, Jorge,
has been widely known in the area as “The Water Man,” and El Fuerte Church has
become known as “The Water Church.”  Juanita F.  Perez, secretary of El Fuerte
Church, sent an email in May 2012 and reported in part:       “Every day we are
receiving more persons looking for the clean water from our neighborhood.  Having
not enough persons to deliver the water bottles, we are going to train some other
members of the church as well as some of the consistory (Session) to give a hand.
So far 2880 gallons has been delivered.”
